It's always funny to laugh at the guy who just wasted himself on the hill, unless it was you who smoked your head, in which case, you won't be laughing, or smiling, and maybe not even conscious We all know a guy, or have a friend who heard of a guy who bruised his tailbone, broke his wrists, impaled himself on a treetop. We just keep thinking that it won't happen to me, that we're protected by a blanket of cool. As one of the fastest growing winter sports in the world, estimating 6.9 million boarders, it also has a high rate of injury and cool doesn't provide much protection. Snowboarding accounts for 36.7% of all mountain sport related injuries and has a 36% higher rate of injury then skiing. For these reasons, we extremely suggest that you invest in some safety gear. There is nothing worse then investing $16 000 in a brain(school tuition) and then incurring a serious head injury, or having one's artistic talents hindered due to wrists injuries. Equipment that you may want to consider include wrist pads, a helmet, knee pads, and possibly an ankle brace and some sort of butt cushion. Sounds a little wimpy to be wearing all this protection, but for everytime it saves your butt, you'll resent it a bit less. |
