zebrahead MFZB (Egg/Columbia/Red Ink) "alternate schoolboy harmonies with a healthy dose of hip-hop, add combustible, high-octane riffs and ignite!" - Guitar World Watch Their Video: T1/DSL (Real) 56K (Real) It's been three years since the Grammy-nominated Orange County-based zebrahead, who formed in the summer of 1996, has released a new album. MFZB is the highly-anticipated successor to zebrahead's 2000 sophomore outing, Playmate of the Year. And it proves well-worth the wait, invoking all the electrifying energy of a live zebrahead show as it blends raging tempos and ringing guitar lines into surging, insistent choruses that stick after a single listen. The members of zebrahead have always put their fans first and continue to build a strong and loyal fan base.As for the mysterious album title, vocalist Tabatabaee says it's a tribute to the band's loyal followers. "MFZB is the name of our fan club," he explains. "We're so grateful for their support and patience while waiting for us to deliver a new record. We've kept in touch with them through our web site, posting road journals and studio updates and corresponding through e-mail, and we really appreciate the fact that they've stuck by us. This one's for them." zebrahead takes its name from a 1992 indie cult film which tells the story of a white teenager's experiences with black students in an integrated Detroit high school. Over the years, the band has toured relentlessly and shared bills with a diverse list of artists, including the Offspring, Cypress Hill, Sugar Ray, Kid Rock, Less Than Jake, Kottonmouth Kings, 311, Reel Big Fish and Goldfinger. zebrahead was also featured on 1999's highly successful Vans Warped Tour. Reviewing a local show, the Los Angeles Times praised the band for "its blend of punk-pop and rap," writing, "the quintet understands how to keep a crowd engaged, fueled by nonstop energy and an endless stream of jokes from singer/guitarist Justin Mauriellos. The band was smooth and confident like a new generation of Rat Pack showmen. zebrahead demonstrated that for one night at least, it was about the performers." ![]() |
