![]() The first time I tried to wakeboard, I was really glad that I got up so quickly only I didn't realize that I actually had to learn how to control the board. So when the boat turned, I was looking in its direction although I wasn't going in that direction, I was going towards the woods. I let go just in time but since I was going so fast, I continued on the water and when landed face first on the bank when my wakeboard hit a tree on the bottom of the lake. I had bruises and scratches all over my face and legs. My friends in the boat just kept laughing at me and they still talk about it each time we go wakeboarding! Christine Dingle this was only a dream.... well it was the first time i was wakeboarding.....and my friend dared me to try it naked...so anyways....be'n the goof i am...i said sure.....so i did it....well then i got up all was fine...but the tip of the board got cought in the wake and i wiped it big...only the rope gave me a cock burn...hahaha...actually this was a story me and my friend made up to tell this girl cuz she wanted to give me a favor... man did i not like her at all.... Arthur Ostrowski Well, you see many crazy things happen when you wakeboard. Everything from catching the usual sunburn because you're hanging out in the sun, to well, near death experiences. Here are some wakeboard horror stories that my compadres and I have went through. My brother has lost his bathing suit while getting up. Yeah, that's quite a horror story..notice that I didn't send in a picture. I've lost my top before. Numerous belly flops, knee ouchies because of all the flat landings and funny wipe outs. Hitting a rock while driving the boat is always a downer. Missing gas, and having to row yourself to shore for an hour, that's always very very shitty. This isn't quite a wake horror story but we used to have a 16 foot aluminium with a 35 yamaha horsepower motor on there. My cousin was pulling my other cousin in the tube and we were doing al these crazy circles, suddenly we take another sharpe turn and nearly flip the boat, water had entered the boat and we had lost 2 passengers : my 2 year old sister and my aunt that doesn't swim. My aunt was practically drowning my sister because she didn't have a life jacket and my lil sister did so she was holding on to her to float. We then finally got them out of the water, which was a good ending. We have another horror story, but it's actually a wakeboarding horror story. I was driving around the boat and pulling my brother and a lot of relatives were at my cottage watching and stuff so we'd pass by the shore so my brother could show off his moves. Being the idiot that I am, I passed a little too close and so my brother passed really close to shore too, the fin of his board hit a rock which made him fly frontwards and almost hitting his head onto a rock. I felt pretty responsible, I almost killed my big brother. It won't happen again.. I swear, I learn from my mistakes. Those are my horror stories. Mary Christmas After a week and a half of mid August working on a slider for wakeboarding with one of my close friends we finally finished. This day was exciting, this would be both of our first times hitting a slider and we were very anxious yet excited and nervous all at once. We got the slider anchored out about 100 feet from the shore on the hook that had been sunk years before for a floating raft witch we turned into a slider. After getting the slider in position secured and ready we went back to shore and prepared our gear for me to go hit the slider. I put on my board and the rope witch was attached to my crappie little 11 foot tin boat equipped with 15 horse motor, were was I? Oh yeah the rope was getting tight and then up I was, I took a pass working on my bunny hop witch would be the force throwing me onto the slider. So I took my first pass checked out the slider witch look good considering a couple of fifteen year olds made it. I sprayed water on the slider as instructed by Wakeboard Canada magazine. Went around one more time and jumped up onto the slider fifty fiftying it the first few times after awhile a got pretty comfortable on the piece of scrap plumbing tube. I was pretty confident so I decided that I would try and board slide the slider. I jumped up landing on the tube and was sliding nicely until bang the toe side of my board catches something. Down I go face first into the hideous piece of construction. Reacting on instinct I put out my right hand to protect the rest of my body from the fall "Crack" wow that really hurt. I lay face first on the floating piece of crap until I fall over into the water in pain. I look at my arm and sure enough I found the source of the pain. Looking at the huge lump sticking out of my deformed arm made my stomach feel like I was on the superman ride at Canada's Wonderland. My friends come to my assistance slower than I had wanted, being only 100 feet or so from the cottage I concluded that rather than attempting to climb into the unsteady vessel I concluded that the best solution would be to grab on to the handle with my non-damaged arm and get towed into the beech. When walking to shore in the ankle deep water I noticed that I had severally hurt my knee and it was bleeding all over the place. When my parents got home they took me to the hospital seeing as how neither my friends nor myself are capable of driving an automobile and we did not wish to disturb our parents at their work places I decided that the best solution would be to wait until they got home. When I got looked at by a doctor at the hospital he decided that my knee would need 10 stitches and I would need to come back the next day to have my arm looked at by a specialist. I got the stitches and went back the next day, the doctor had to rebrake my arm and put it into place well after an hour of extremely painful attempts the doctor finally had it close enough to call it quits and to come back the week later. Well I went back and it had healed properly so I wouldn't need surgery. A few months later snowboarding season came around and my arm was healed. Claude Ferrarie |
